Quarks and Leptons Beyond the Third Generation

چکیده
The possibility of additional quarks and leptons beyond the three generations already established is discussed. The make-up of this Report is (I) Introduction: the motivations for believing that the present litany of elementary fermions is not complete; (II) Quantum Numbers: possible assignments for additional fermions; (III) Masses and Mixing Angles: mass limits from precision electroweak data, vacuum stability and perturbative gauge unification; empirical constraints on mixing angles; (IV) Lifetimes and Decay Modes: their dependence on the mass spectrum and mixing angles of the additional quarks and leptons; the possibility of exceptionally long lifetimes; (V) Dynamical Symmetry Breaking: the significance of the top quark and other

A simple breaking of the subnuclear democracy of the quarks leads to a mixing between the second and the third family, in agrement with observation. Introducing the mixing between the first and the second family, one finds an interesting pattern of maximal CP –violation as well as a complete determination of the elements of the CKM matrix and of the unitarity triangle. In the standard electrowe...
متن کاملHow Many Quarks and Leptons ?
There are eight quarks in each family and there are three families of quarks i.e. c, b, t. Also, we propose similar structure for leptons. The nature of strong force is named as ‘third order electroweak’.
متن کاملPossible reason why leptons are lighter than quarks.
The minimal model of spontaneously broken leptonic colour and discrete quarklepton symmetry predicts that charged leptons have the same masses as their partner charge +2/3 quarks up to small radiative corrections. By invoking a different pattern of symmetry breaking, a similar model can be constructed with the structural feature that charged leptons have to be lighter than their partner quarks ...
متن کاملMinireview of Leptoquark Searches
Leptoquarks are hypothetical bosons which couple to a lepton and a quark via a Yukawa coupling (denoted λ). In the Standard model, both quarks and leptons occur in left-handed SU(2) doublets and right-handed SU(2) singlets. The symmetry between quarks and leptons leads to the cancellation of triangle anomalies which make the SM renormalizable. Leptoquarks appear in theories[1] in which this sym...
